It is our tradition as a church to have a Christmas Appeal for work outside of the church. This usually includes one local organsation and one that is workinbg overseas. These are the appeal beneficiaries for 2024.
From Liz Martin:-
As most of you will probably know, I work at the YMCA in Coventry as a chaplain, and have done for the last 3 and a half years. It’s a genuine privilege to work here, although it has its challenges, and in the past year we’ve been able to start a Bible study with residents, which has been amazing.
The kindness of the congregation, particularly at Christmas time, is incredible, and for some of the residents who genuinely have nothing, or no family, it makes such a difference to be able to provide them with something. Many of the residents have had a difficult year, and Christmas is often a particularly difficult and isolating time, and the New Year offers little hope. We are planning a Christmas party, and to have gifts, and in the New Year, we are hoping to start running some more events for residents, including practical activities like cooking, and support activities like an art group, and carrying on with the spiritual support in the Bible study.
Anything you give will go towards making these things possible. With grateful thanks, Liz
BMS World Mission “Special Delivery” Appeal
This year’s appeal is to support the work of BMS in Chad. The BMS website explains that the maternal mortality rate in Chad is the second worst in the world. For every 100,000 live births, over 1,000 mothers die within six weeks of having their baby. Mothers and their newborns are dying from birth complications and infections that could easily be treated.
The statistics are heartbreaking, but your generosity could save the lives of mothers and babies who lack good healthcare. At Guinebor II Hospital in Chad, BMS World Mission workers provide essential medical care for newborns and their mothers. This Christmas, you can ensure that babies are born safely and provide mothers with the care they need to raise a healthy family.
